The use of composite materials in the automotive industry, began more than half century ago, in the manufacture of conventional and competition vehicles, with the aim of reducing energy consumption by reducing weight replacing metallic materials by composite materials.
Over the years, it has been demonstrated that, unlike metals, composites are lighter, more resistant to fatigue, easier to mould, and resistant to corrosion... But composites have also a clear advantage in terms of safety, thanks to its very high impact absorption capacity. In car manufacturing we can distinguish two application ariars; inner parts (dashboards, door linings, roofs, seats...) and exterior parts (bumpers, mudguards, spoilers...)
