Vessels, vehicles, and structures working in the aquatic environment are usually exposed to hostile environmental conditions, attributable to the sun´s action, wind, waves, tides, and as well to the corrosion action when those components are submerged in salt water. Initially its use was limited to the manufacture of lifeboats, canoes and small boats, however, over time it is being used in the manufacture of large-scale structures such as large ship hulls, submarines, oil structures, and offshore repairs.
Composite materials exhibit high strength and require no maintenance over long time periods. In addition, today's manufacturing standards and regulations require light weight and high corrosion resistance.
